Mohonk Testimonial Gateway

The Testimonial Gateway is one of the most photogenic spots on the ridge and an easy, relaxed outing for any group. A historic stone archway rises over open meadows, with wide, flat, well-packed paths that are perfect for a gentle stroll, a stroller, or catching a sunset over the mountains. It is a favorite for photos, birdwatching, and slow afternoon walks.

Because the paths here are level and open, it is a great choice when you want the beauty of the Gunks without a strenuous hike. You can walk out toward the duck pond and back for an easy couple of miles, with plenty of benches along the way.

A few details worth knowing before you go: this is part of Mohonk Preserve, so a Preserve day pass applies, $15 for hikers on weekdays and $20 on weekends and holidays. Parking is at the gateway trailhead. It is a calm, low-effort spot, ideal for families or a sunset walk. Located on Route 299 near New Paltz.
